About Us

The Nakba Memorial Foundation is a charity dedicated to preserving Palestinian arts, culture, and heritage. Our initial objective is to build the ‘Centre for Documentation on the Nakba’ in London to preserve the historical record of the 1948 Nakba in Palestine.

We are motivated in this objective by the need to raise public awareness about the 1948 ethnic cleansing of Palestine as well as the ongoing Nakba, and to provide a space for dialogue, informing activism, and academic research relating to Palestine.

Our Vision

Our immediate goal is to set up the Centre for Documentation on the Nakba. A building will be acquired for this purpose, with all of the documentation digitalised and made available to historians and others who wish to research the events concerned.

An Archive

Initially, we will create a hub for a Nakba archive, which will consist primarily of documents directly detailing the 1948 Nakba from Israeli archives, many of which have since 2016 been reclassified by Israel.

A Cultural Hub

Cultural productions, such as films documenting the nature of the communities which existed prior to the Nakba (and were then destroyed) will be made.

A Research Unit

The centre will encourage academic research and discussion, promoting knowledge on what happened in 1948 and after. Support will be given to ongoing research.
