Operations of the Nakba

Leaflet Before Occupation

This is a template of a leaflet that was distributed from the air a quarter of an hour before the occupation, destruction and deportation of a village [in Arabic].

Operation ‘Ben-Ami’

These two documents tell the story of the ‘Ben-Ami’ operation: the total destruction and massacre of Palestinian village in the Western Galilee, which was part of the state granted to the Arabs in the UN partition resolution and was planned before the Arab governments had sent contingents to Palestine.

Operation ‘Hiram’

This document is taken from Yossef Vashitz’s archive. Yossef Vashitz was a member of left-wing Zionist movement, ‘Hashomer Hazair’, whose members joined the PALMACH, the storm groups of the Hagana. In his private collection, there is half page, no date, but refers mainly to “operation Hiram”, 90 hours in which the Israeli army occupied the Upper Galilee at the very end of October 1948.

Nazareth Telegram

The telegram below is about Nazareth, the only Palestinian town not depopulated by Israel. Based on that experience, the commander in chief of the operation sent a telegram to David Ben Gurion: ‘Let me know urgently. Should I remove the inhabitants from the city of Nazareth. In my opinion, we Should remove all of them, apart from religious dignitaries’.

Hunin Village

The village: one of seven villages in which a Shiite community lived (known as the Mutawallis) who lived there for centuries. All the villages were cleaned in the Nakba. Hunin was already attacked in April and most of the people were expelled. They returned and dispatched message to the Zionist forces that they had no wish to take part in any fighting.

TENE Document

This document was prepared by TENE (a fruit basket in Hebrew), the codename for the intelligence service of the Haganah and by the time this published the Haganah was part of the new IDF. Even this very limited quote from it indicates clearly how these documents refute categorically the Israeli propaganda about the Nakba.
